Health Tips for Puppies

Back to Health Tips

Feeding

Always feed BLUE™ Life Protection Formula puppy food and fresh drinking water in stainless steel or ceramic dishes. Avoid plastic dishes as petrochemicals can leech out and into your puppy.

Feeding Guidelines

Puppies require 2–3 times the amount of food as adults; however avoid overfeeding. A good gauge is never to allow your puppies stomach to be bigger than his or her chest after finishing the meal.

Add Fresh Vegetables Daily

Get your puppy used to fresh vegetables. Start with a small amount of grated or chopped carrots or parsley. Chlorophyll, beta–carotene and extra phytonutrients added to BLUE Life Protection Formula are always beneficial.

Water

Always offer fresh drinking water. It is a good idea to remove the water bowl 1 hour before and after feeding. This will help prevent dilution of stomach acid and bloating.

Rawhide

Many people like to feed rawhide treats to exercise teeth and jaw muscles. For puppies use the compressed particle type to avoid the rawhide getting stuck in the intestinal tract. Always ask for rawhide that is not bleached or cured in harsh chemicals such as arsenic and chromium.

Cars

NEVER leave your dog unattended in a car with the windows closed.

Vaccinate Wisely

Vaccinate against only those diseases that your puppy will realistically come in contact with. Speak with your family veterinarian to determine the prominent diseases in your area that should be part of the initial puppy series. Also, ask your veterinarian to spread out the vaccines as much as possible and always insist upon vaccinating for one disease at a time.
